Reading Faces
"Blinded By Love"

All my art education I received from books and a few instructors.  In 1995 I began studying art under Alex Chidichimo, an established artist and teacher in San Diego.  After a career change in 2003, I began to look for avenues through which art could support me full time.

From June-September 2006, I worked for Kaman's Art Shoppes, a company that places artists in theme parks. I worked at Sea World San Diego as a caricature artist, drawing faces for commission sales. The training, the homework and daily drawing honed my skills at getting the essence of a face down on paper quickly and efficiently. The challenge was moving from tonal painting to line drawing.

When we go about our ordinary living, we take advantage of the little moments that hook an experience together. It is my object to snatch one of those moments and express it in a painting. Most of the time, I choose to express a moment through a portrait. Because so much communication comes from facial expressions, I enjoy capturing a look, that, to the viewer, may say many things, such as peace, sorrow, elation, fright, love, mournfulness, or understanding. It is my intent for the viewer to identify those brief moments, those expressions, and remember the same feelings.
